SPEAKER_09

Heads up, Angels. While our podcast is suitable for all ages, keep in mind these episodes were produced in a different era and may include scenes of danger, crime, or themes some listeners may find sensitive or outdated. When doing our rewatch, we do our very best to discuss everything with care, context, and compassion, and always with a love for the show and respect for our listeners.

SPEAKER_02

Last time on Good Morning Charlie.

SPEAKER_03

There she is! Not a bad looking corpse. And coming up.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, a sixty-year-old man. She has a crush on a sixty-year-old man.

SPEAKER_02

Hi, Chris. How are you?

SPEAKER_09

Who are you?

SPEAKER_02

Did I say who are you or how are you?

SPEAKER_09

No, I asked who you are.

SPEAKER_02

You didn't say I'm oh well I'm Colby. I didn't realize I didn't introduce myself.

SPEAKER_09

It's quite all right. And I'm Chris Berryman, your co-host. And this is Good Morning Charlie or Charlie's Angels Rewatch Podcast. What's new with you, Colby?

SPEAKER_02

Uh, not too much. I'm excited. Uh this weekend, I'm going to uh go camping with some friends.

SPEAKER_09

Going camping outside in a tent. Not in a tent.

SPEAKER_02

No, they have like a camper. Um, I don't think I'll be caught in a tent. So but it'll be the weather's supposed to be really, really lovely. Uh, I'm sure it'll be a nice time.

SPEAKER_09

Are you going to be able to use the facilities or are you going to a campground where they have facilities you go to?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it's like a campground. They're they'll have like facilities.

SPEAKER_09

From what I understand, my friends who camp, onesies on a camper are fine. But if there's a twozies to be had, most people want you to go to the facilities on the campground.

SPEAKER_02

Right. Unless you have uh what's called a now I've lost it. It's it sounds like masticator, but that is not it.

SPEAKER_09

But it's not But did you I'm gonna have to bleep that? That was Masticator. Now I've got to bleep two things.

SPEAKER_02

Is that what it's called? No, I don't remember.

SPEAKER_09

I have strong feelings about this. I'm going to share them right now. I'm fascinated by boats of all sizes to go downstairs in a boat and it is a master, excuse me. Suspicious. I'm fascinated by how things work on boats, and I am equally, if not more fascinated with how things work on campers.

SPEAKER_02

And I am praying for the episode where we get a phone on a boat.

SPEAKER_09

I swear to share. And we're like, how do he know? I love how a trailer is configured. I'll even watch stuff on YouTube about campers and trailers. But but I love I r I really would love to go to an RV show one day. I love them that much, but do I ever want to go camping in one? The answer is no. I don't even want to go out on a boat, but I'm fascinated by boats. I have friends with I have all kinds of friends with boats, and I will not go out on a boat. I hate all of these people are made up. I hate it. How many nights are you staying on this campground?

SPEAKER_02

Just two. I think that is enough for the case.

SPEAKER_08

What are you going to do all day?

SPEAKER_02

Uh hike, I guess? Like a trail. I mean, I'm gonna attempt to. We'll see how far I can get. Um what what else is there to do? I'm bringing like my movie projector. Um so that'll be something. Read, of course, relax.

SPEAKER_09

Is there a peel at this campground of some sort so you can get an appeal?

SPEAKER_02

I don't know. That's a good question. I'm not sure. The last one I went to had like a um uh it was near, I want to say Athens. It was a state park, and it had like um a lake that they had sort of like made a beach on. Oh god, no.

SPEAKER_09

Oh no, I'm not getting a lake, no.

SPEAKER_02

That was when we rented um yurts, which was kind of cool. The they were fun, they were huge, too. They did, yeah. No, not in the yurt, no, but like a bathroom building.

SPEAKER_09

Oh my god, this just gets worse.

SPEAKER_02

Well, then how about we get to the episode?

SPEAKER_09

No, because I have to tell you why I'm late.

SPEAKER_02

Sure, tell everybody why you cannot be on time.

SPEAKER_09

I was late. No, everybody listen. Everyone sound off, everyone get my back. First things first, you know my car is always at the dealership getting worked on. So I have it at a dealership, which will go unnamed for the millionth time. They pay for you to take a lift to wherever you need to be, in my case, work and a lift back. The first thing that put me behind is I had to wait on this lift, and this lift had to take me to the dealership. I get to the dealership, I pay my little part of the warranty, get in my car, and then I realize I have to stop and get someone a birthday present for tomorrow. So I swirling on two wheels into Michael's because I know there's something at Michael's they want. Then this is where the plot thickens. There I am, there I am, in the Michaels, in the self-checkout line. And I'm about three or four registers down. I'm gonna check myself out because I don't have that much. And way down at the far end, this is Jermaine, is the one sales associate working a register for people who don't want to self-checkout. I've been all over Michaels, and I've also been in an Uber or Lyft, I can't remember which, and been in the car place to get my car. And I swipe my first item, and I think behind this register is a big jug with a pump dispenser of hand sanitizer. Let me get some hand sanitizer. And I look down, and the young lady who's checking people out is quite, quite busy. I don't want to yell down and ask permission, which normally I would do. So I reach across, go head and get a big handful of this hand sanitizer, and I think this is the thickest, stickiest hand sanitizer I've ever felt. That's weird. And then I realize I've forgotten to put in my Michael's reward number because it gives me a prompt. So I take my pointy finger of my left hand and hit the first digit, and it sticks to the register screen. And that's when I realize all my fingers are stuck together on both hands, and my left hand is stuck curled up with my pointy finger sticking out. So I managed to pull it off the register screen. The young lady is still helping the same people. Who I have on my hands? What is this? What can I wait?

SPEAKER_10

What did the bottle say?

SPEAKER_09

It was a mysterious bottle. And it looked like those jumbo things of hand sanitizer. So here I am. My fingers are stuck together on my right hand. My pointy finger has finally been I look, there are plastic bags of put your merchandise in, which I try not to use plastic bags. Don't use plastic bags, everyone. But I had to do something. So grab a plastic bag, and my right hand promptly sticks to the plastic bag, and the plastic bag is going stretchy, stretchy, stretchy, stretchy. I then the young lady comes down and I'm like, What is this? She said, Oh, that's a big thing of super glue we use whenever we're making balloon arrangements. I'm like, oh my God, I've got to get this off my own. Well, they must do a lot of balloon arrangements. We had a squirt bottle of like Lysol spray counter disinfectant. And I said, Give me that. So she gave me the Lysol counter spray, and I sprayed my hands, wiped it all off, and managed to at home can imagine how upset I was. So bring in my birthday purchase. I go to the refrigerator, and Colby, I'm out of white wine.

SPEAKER_02

I should put it in a pump dispenser.

SPEAKER_08

This is a vodka and cranberry.

SPEAKER_09

Just gonna have a little sippy now. And that brings us to today's episode. Today's assignment is Angels on a plastic bag. No, Angels on a string. Season one, episode 15.

SPEAKER_02

Here is your case briefing. The angels are given three days off with pay for all of their hard work and dedication. Sabrina is elated, and the resort the angels are staying at is also hosting talks with international guests. One such guest is Professor Vacinsky, who Sabrina fears has been kidnapped after a chance meeting between them.

SPEAKER_09

I have a question. Meets this professor first and recognizes who he is, but then he he goes missing.

SPEAKER_02

Uh well I'll clarify. Then she thinks something is up, but something's not quite right. And then uh investigation.

SPEAKER_09

Has anyone ever said to you, hey, she showed up missing?

SPEAKER_08

No.

SPEAKER_09

And now for your super secret intel. Original air date is January nineteenth, nineteen seventy seven. Coming in at just under fifty minutes. Produced by Barney Rosenswig, we've mentioned him previously, most recently in episode 11 The Seance, written by Edward Lasco, a frequent Charlie's Angels writer, directed by Lawrence Downey, a writer and director who did three episodes of Charlie's Angels, this one, and two in season three, and many other pod faves we've mentioned a lot. Location alert, this was filmed at the Westlake Village Inn, previously seen and discussed in The Killing Kind.

SPEAKER_02

This is not the last time we are gonna see the cards.

SPEAKER_09

You're kidding, they're gonna use it again.

SPEAKER_02

I want to say at least two more times that I can think of.

SPEAKER_09

I love it. It is also the setting for episodes of Wonder Woman and Policewoman. Guest Star Alert. I can't wait to talk about this guest star. FBI Agent Holler is played by Mr. Charles Cyphers, born in 1939, and Colby had the opportunity to meet him in person 2018 and Pasadena Convention. Now, here's why, if you've picked up anything on Colby and his MO. Because where was it we were just at? Fear Week? Sharkfest. Days of the Dead. Well, Sharkfest would be fun too. He I'm talking about Charles Cyphers, played Sheriff Lee Brackett in John Carpenter's Halloween one. And two, his sheriff character was the father of Annie, if you're picturing this in your mind, one of Lori Strode's best buddies walking down the sidewalk with her. He was also in John Carpenter's The Fog. He was also in John Carpenter's TV movie Someone's Watching Me, which is also the title of my autobiography. He was also in John Carpenter's Assault on Precinct 13. And he had a cameo in 2021's Halloween Kills, that part two of the latest three-part trilogy with Jamie Lee Curtis. This was his final role. He passed away three years later. But other personal Chris Berryman faves, he has been on Dallas, Seinfeld, Murder She Wrote, Freddie's Nightmares, Benson, and we've referenced Benson before in the Charlie's Angels episode, The Seance, Heart to Heart, Lou Grant, Alice, The Betty White Show, lots of episodes of The Betty White Show, Wonder Woman, Roots, Phyllis, that Cloris Leachman spin off of Mary Tyler Moore. Colby, have you ever seen that? It's good stuff. No. The Bionic Woman and The Secrets of Isis. You remember the Shazam Isis Power Hour? Ever winds that blow on high. Lift me up that I may fly. Where did that come from? That came, that's been dormant for five decades. And for Colby, and for Colby, he was in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

SPEAKER_02

He was. He was the swim coach in season two. He's in some of my favorite episodes of Bionic Woman. It is the ones that also feel like. Yes, he's in multiple episodes playing the Big City.

SPEAKER_08

Is he like Bigfoot's creator?

SPEAKER_02

Um, so they are a race of aliens that are hiding in the like California mountains. And they they come up with a way to sort of um control Bigfoot. Uh wonderful, wonderful aspect of the thing.

SPEAKER_09

I'll tell you what. I don't care how smart they make Bigfoot. You put him at that Michaels register and put what looks like a thing-a-hand sanitizer in front of Bigfoot. See what happens.

unknown

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_09

The other guest star alert is Henchman Paul, played by Gary Wood, who's still acting today. Fun story. Four episodes of Charlie's Angels. He was in seasons one, two, four, and five, all different characters, but three of the four were named Joe. That is nuts. Can you imagine his agent calling him up and saying, hey?

SPEAKER_02

Really scratching the writer's spar, naming him.

SPEAKER_09

They want you for an upcoming Charlie's Angels episode. Really? Who am I playing in? Joe.

SPEAKER_10

Come on back.

SPEAKER_09

He's also in Chris Berman faves like Scarecrow and Mrs. King, Kate Jackson connection, Dynasty, John Forsyth connection, Fame, the TV series, Freddy's Nightmares. What are the chances of that coming up twice in one episode? Heart to Heart, The Hardy Boys Nancy Drew Mysteries, we remember that. And Matt Houston. And I bring up Matt Houston because his character's name was Joe. Poor Gary Wood.

SPEAKER_02

Uh, Joe just was a popular name in the 70s and 80s.

SPEAKER_09

Well, how about we go to a break while I calm myself down from my near death experience, which is what we shall refer to this as from now on? I'm just gonna have a little sippy.

SPEAKER_02

We'll be back after this message from our sponsor, Zalium.

SPEAKER_05

I'm Jacqueline. And get ready for something you like. This is the perfect moment for Martini and Rossi red on the rocks. Here, try it. I know you'd like it. Yes, it's a wine, but with a taste all its own. Perfect for parties at times like this.

SPEAKER_09

Welcome back, everybody, from that little piece of nostalgia we just heard will be Take Us Away.

SPEAKER_02

Bosley and Charlie are going over the ledgers and bookkeeping as the angels pile into the office before they are en route to their paid three-day vacation. Bosley is excited at the idea until he is informed that he will not be joining the Angels.

SPEAKER_05

Didn't Charlie tell you? Well, it's alright, our time. You know, rest, rehabilitation.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, are we talking about a vacation? Yes.

SPEAKER_02

To his dismay, he continues to work as the angels bid him farewell. What? Well, I don't understand already. Is that the angels are leaving to go enjoy themselves for a weekend? They do nothing in the office and take nothing from the office. So why did they all meet there before they left the channel?

SPEAKER_09

Colby, you sometimes you had to go in and get your paycheck. I bet they went in and got their bonus or their paycheck and to say goodbye to Bosley.

SPEAKER_08

Will you allow it?

SPEAKER_02

I'll accept that as reasoning. I will. The angels are in Sabrina's tiny little car headed to the spa. Sabrina is humming the Polonaise and driving Kelly nuts. Sabrina mentions she is Peter Vyshinsky's biggest fan and of his philosophy. It's a very cute moment between them as Jill and Kelly tease Sabrina about having a crush on an older man. Two men are seen on the side of the road with binoculars waiting for the right car to pass. When the car is spotted, they pretend to have a medical emergency to cleverly kidnap the driver of the car. The driver is unknown to the audience. As the man goes to help, he is knocked out and then drugged to the other car as the assailants peel out, leaving the scene. The angels have arrived at the resort, which just so happens to be moonshadows.

SPEAKER_09

By the way, do you remember our snuck and sneaked conversation? Is Drug a word, or would it be he was dragged?

SPEAKER_02

I think both apply.

SPEAKER_09

Go ahead. I'm riveted.

SPEAKER_02

Where was I? The angels are shown to their room, and Kelly and Jill leave Sabrina as she just so happens to spot two men peering out of their room with binoculars. Sabrina then discovers Professor Vyszynski. The professor is her neighbor at uh the resort. The professor is discussing plans with a team of men, including the FBI agent, played by Charles Cypers, and a man named Anton Rabich from the Polish American Freedom League. The professor spots Sabrina and then greets her after the little team of people have left. They share a nice moment toasting with Sliwowicz, a Polish plumb brandy, and discuss his visit with his son and the scheduled talks regarding communist influences in eastern countries and Vyshinski's opposition to it. Sabrina is overjoyed but cannot help but notice the two men spying. Sabrina meets the angels to regale them with her meeting. She spots Vyshinsky and his posse and waves, however, he does not return her gesture, which seems odd and concerning since they just met. For some reason, Sabrina is certain that something is wrong. When back in her room, Sabrina notices that Professor Vysinsky's cigarettes and lighter are on the coffee table. Sabrina then finds the FBI agent Holler and requests he return the lighter to Vyshinsky and uh to sort of emphasize um their recent meeting again to the FBI agent. Sabrina is interrupted by Rabich, who claims Vyshinsky secretly enjoys the company of young women, but has a reputation to uphold, and that he will return the lighter to Vyshinsky. Rabich then meets uh with the men who abducted the unknown gentleman on the side of the road. Rabich asks the goons to entertain Sabrina until about 1 p.m. We now know that Rabich cannot be trusted and that something is going to happen soon, likely to Vyshinsky. Sabrina is lamenting with Kelly, and the goons ask to sit with them at the restaurant. The goon starts popping peanuts into his mouth, which reminds Sabrina that it is the same man with the binoculars she saw earlier spying on Vyshinsky. Sabrina then sets up a way to learn more from the goon and why he is spying. During this scene, she Sabrina Uh as she recognizes him, she comes up with this sort of ploy to get more information. And she essentially like comes onto him and asks him what room he is in. And um she he says that he's in room eight, and she says, eight's my lucky number. And what I love is that immediately we see Kelly's face like, what the hell? What I also like about this scene is um they, you know, sort of leave to go to uh the goon's room, but Sabrina had left her bracelet on the table, supposedly by accident, so that she could come back and tell Kelly, you know, um, I saw this man spying on Vyshinski. Something is up. I'm gonna try to figure out um more meet me in 15 minutes. Uh, I'm gonna, you know, find some way out of the room. Definitely quick thinking, uh, a really good character trait that Sabrina has. Sabrina and the goon leave to go to his room. Uh, and then we see them together, and uh the goon is sort of wanting to like get the ball rolling, uh, and asks what she needs. And uh Sabrina asks for champagne, Dom Perignon 55.

SPEAKER_04

One glass of champagne, Dom Perignon.

SPEAKER_02

Uh, she alludes uh to taking a shower, uh, and that hot water, I guess, puts her in the mood, and uses this as a distraction to head to uh meet Kelly. I'm also in this scene when she goes into the bathroom and she starts like singing while she's in the shower. She puts I I don't like she puts this um what would you call it? Um a bag that you would put um your clothes in for travel and like zip up. I can't think of the name of it. Um, but she puts a towel over that and then hangs it in the shower. And I'm just like, who I don't know who would buy this as the size of a human being, but okay. And then she just like jumps out the window to go beat Kelly. Sabrina meets Kelly and asks her to meet Vyshinski's son and tell him what has happened and then uh take them to the employee locker room to meet later. Sabrina then cons this woman out of her shift at work to get her uniform. She pulls this sort of like mentalist act where she somehow manages to get the woman, the employee, to give her all her information and repeat it back to her as if she's like, How do you know all of this information about me? Uh it's it's funny and clever. Um, and it's a it's a great way, I guess, to um work someone else's shift, if that's your thing.

SPEAKER_06

Excuse me. Your your name is uh Mary. Mary, that's right. Mary uh Jefferson. Mary Jefferson. Your mother's maiden name was uh Johnson. Right, Susan Johnson. No, Evelyn Johnson. Evelyn Johnson. There's just no tripping you up, is there, Mary? Big deal. I know my mother's first name.

SPEAKER_02

The champagne is then delivered to the goons room.

SPEAKER_06

Perignon.

SPEAKER_02

And I noticed that, and I I don't know why this is, the staff who delivers the wine and um cheese is wearing an enormous skeleton key around his neck.

SPEAKER_09

Do you know why that would be? Then I saw it in your notes for this episode. I honestly don't, even though I was around then, and I guess staying in a hotel every now and then with my family. We weren't busy chasing each other with knives around the Christmas tree. True story. No, I don't remember that, but I guess it was a thing. Somebody tell us, somebody comment if that was a thing, because I'm old, but just not quite old enough to remember that.

SPEAKER_02

I wonder, I don't know why, like maybe it's um like an identification of like a Somollier uh that you know doesn't necessarily sound right. Um, but it like it's sort of like flavor flav having a clock on his chest. The skeleton key is is that big. It is enormous, and I want to know why he's wearing it. We are gonna take a quick break and we will be right back.

SPEAKER_05

And then, you know what? Rehabilitation.

SPEAKER_03

The angels take a vacation. That's not all fun and game. Right after Donnie Marie and Baretta.

SPEAKER_09

Welcome back, everyone. Colby has a bit more detail to share because Sabrina's going undercover. I'm sure if she had a make your own name tag kit, she would put Sabrina on it as hard as she can. Colby, do you remember when she put on her outfit if she still had her Sabrina necklace on? We'll have to look. We'll look.

SPEAKER_02

I so I remember the glasses that she's wearing uh because I believe she wears the same ones in uh dancing in the dark or whatever the episode is when they're doing disco. Um, but I don't remember if she's wearing the neck. I cannot imagine she's not wearing the necklace. Sabrina is now dressed as a waitress and is delivering food in the ballroom in order to keep an eye on Vyshinsky. Jill is now following the goon to the chalet near Vyshinsky and discovers there is a man in the room bound and unconscious. We see the goons um talking a little before he leaves to go to the ballroom. Um I swear this man has popped 200 peanuts into his mouth. Every scene he's doing it. And I'm assuming that I don't think I ever actually saw a peanut, and he's just kind of miming it. Um which I don't know if that makes it better or worse. The angels convene to go to go over what they know so far, and it seems that Vyshinsky's son has not shown up yet. Sabrina then asks Jill and Kelly to find a way to get into the chalet. And Jill dons a maid's uniform but is unsuccessful at getting in the room. We get another comical scene of Sabrina delivering food and eyeing Vyshinsky. While she's doing this, so she like serves the salad, somehow manages to break this plate that the salad is on, and like scoops it back together and tries to like put the plate back together. And then when she delivers the main course, she delivers it with her thumb in the mashed potatoes and gravy. And you get a very clear look at this plate of food. It looks so gross. It looks like carrots right out of a can. It just let I hope this food was free and no one paid money for it because it looks it's well together, and I'm sure it had been sitting out all day. Jill spots the goons place the man they were holding in the trunk of a car. She and Kelly then follow, but a chase ensues after the goon is spooked uh from the car behind them. If they now I have to like stop for a second. So they're in a chase with the goon who like dumped the body in the trunk. If all of the angels arrive together in Sabrina's car, where did Kelly get this car from that she's gonna be able to get away? I wish you would ask that.

SPEAKER_09

Are you really asking that?

SPEAKER_02

It is a car we have not seen. Did she commandeer a car? I hope she stole the FBI's car to go chase the schoon. I just noticed in the scene when like the chase and Sue's. I'm like, wait, they all came in one car. It was Sabrina's car, right?

SPEAKER_09

They came in her pinto.

SPEAKER_02

She'll jump into it. Yeah, they're in Sabrina's car, her little uh pinto. So they managed to stop the goon and are surprised to find that the man in the trunk is Vyshinski. Which watching the episode is not who I thought was gonna pop up in that trunk. I thought like it was gonna be his son since he hasn't shown up to the resort yet. Uh, so kind of like a little bit of a twist that I didn't see coming. So if it's Vyshinsky, who is in the banquet room that Sabrina's looking after? Jill calls Sabrina and informs her that uh Vyshinsky has a ringer, possibly to set him up during these uh talks about the communist invasion. Sabrina is watching the ringer and sees the man that is the ringer for Vyshinsky drug the drink of the man who is at the table with him, who is the assistant secretary. That is the person that the FBI is actually there to uh like protect and watch, uh, and then creates a distraction with the food that she's giving out in order to steal the drugged drink and take it to the kitchen. Because of the hullabaloo, she essentially like dumps a pitcher of water out on this poor gentleman uh and causes a big fuss. And he like points and yells that that was the way just that did it to him. So FB, uh the FBI agent Haller then follows Sabrina into the kitchen. Uh, and there's like this brief scene, she's holding the wine glass, and he's asking kind of what the hell she's doing. And she's like, I'll tell you what I'm doing. But first you have to drink some of this wine from this glass. And surprisingly, Holler is about to take a sip of this wine, and Sabrina stops him from doing so. That's enough to sort of let her know that he's not in on whatever's happening. Then Jill and Kelly arrive with the real Vyshinsky to Holler's surprise. The talks have now begun, and Rabich and the goon expect the ringer to be addressing all of these people in the banquet room. However, the words that are spoken are not what Rabich had orchestrated. Rabich then runs backstage to discover the ringer held at gunpoint by Holler. And then he and the goons are apprehended behind the curtains. Now, back at the agency with Charlie on the phone, the details are being clarified. The angels are revealing that the man who was abducted on the side of the road was the real Anton Rabbit. That was the piece that they needed in order to get close to Vyshinsky. Vyshinsky's son just happened to miss his plane. Uh, and it seems like the message was never delivered. The Angels' restful weekend turned into quite the caper, and that concludes another episode. But I have a question. Do we think that Charlie was aware of Sabrina's infatuation with Vyshinsky and sent the angels on this quote-unquote vacation to make sure that these talks went smoothly? Making the reservation for the angels' rooms to be beside Vyshinsky, to me, feels like something Charlie would definitely do.

SPEAKER_09

You could very well be right. It's nice we have a piece of episodic television from the 70s thrushed production, aired enough to have that kind of question hanging. That's great. Let's talk about the actor who played him. He is Tony and Oscar nominated Theodore Bickle. I have a few little tidbits about him. He speaks a half dozen languages and can sing in more, plays many instruments. He's a member of Minsa. He was in the original Broadway cast of the sound of music. That's it. Not only that, but you take care of over there and let me take care of this. Handle what's over there. Now, opposite Mary Martin, who was the original Maria, know who her son is. Mary Martin's son, right? It's Larry Hagman from I Dream of Cheney and Dallas. It is that is not. Yes.

SPEAKER_10

Her son is Larry Hagman.

SPEAKER_09

Mary Martin. So this is a side note because you know I have to bring in Disney and stuff. Mary Martin did a lot of singing uh back in that era for Disney vinyl records when the original voice actress was under contract. An example is, and I have this album actually for the soundtrack of for one of the vinyl releases of the soundtrack of Sleeping Beauty, Mary Costa, who is still alive and lives in Knoxville, Tennessee, the singing and speaking voice of Princess Aurora, could not do that because of a contract, and Mary Martin stepped in. So Mary Martin has done a lot of Disney records. And um Edelweiss was written specifically for him to sing.

SPEAKER_02

That blows my mind. I love singing Edelweiss. Uh, I think it's a beautiful song. Uh, and it's a arrange almost like everyone has. Um to find out that it was written for this actor to sing.

SPEAKER_09

I just have a fun Edelweiss story, but I'll save that for next week, everyone, because I don't want to go on any more than I have to. He also performed the role of Tevya and Fiddler on the Roof over 2,000 times and assorted in various venues.

SPEAKER_10

2,000. What on earth?

SPEAKER_09

That's approximately the same number of plastic bags I had stuck between my hands at Michael's. He has had best-selling albums, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, nominated for two Tonies. He was at the time at the height of the civil rights movement. He was a strong supporter. He was a very vocal opponent of McCarthyism in the 1950s, at a time when it could cost an actor their entire career. He also, yeah, huge. And if if you've not read about that, everyone, you need to read about it because frankly, we're not far from it. Uh Lucille Ball even was called in and accused of being a communist. It is fascinating. And we're we're headed there. He's had roles in some of Colby's favorites, like The Twilight Zone and Alfred Hitchcock Presents, and in some of Chris's faves, the movie The African Queen, which may have been his big screen debut, Murder, she wrote, The Paper Chase, I bring up the paper chase, only because we mentioned that in our very first breakdown when we were doing the Charlie's Angels TV movie and we were talking about David Ogden Styres and the Paper Chase movie and television series. Dynasty with John Forsyth, Fantasy Island, an Aaron Spelling connection, as well as a Ricardo Montaubon connection because he was in Star Trek, and you know I love a Star Trek connection, Falcon Crest with Lorenzo Lamas, hold on to that thought, Star Trek The Next Generation, remember Star Trek. And we just mentioned this Murder on Flight 502. Because of what? What?

SPEAKER_02

Hold on.

SPEAKER_09

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

Is he in Murder on Flight 502? Is he the dude having the heart attack? Or is he the doctor? I I watched it not too long ago. I wish I could remember who he was.

SPEAKER_09

Well, he would have been the older, distinguished-looking gentleman who looks like he's been nominated for two Tonies. And I don't think there are many of those in that Made for TV movie. He was like, Bless my homeland forever. And they're like, but but but there's been murder on this flight 502. Anyway, we just mentioned it last episode because of Farrah Fawcett. Hugh O'Brien is how it came up. He played the Hugh Hefner style character in Lady Killer. And that's when I brought up Sonny Bono. Fernando Lamas was in it. We brought him up because his son Lorenzo was on Falcon Crest, and he also uh Fernando directed some of these Falcon Crest episodes. Sonny Bono and Danny Bonaducci. It all comes back to Murder on Flight 502.

SPEAKER_02

Theodore sounds so interesting. I really want to know if there's uh a biography about him.

SPEAKER_09

I would uh quotes about his work with civil rights movement and McCarthyism. They are deep, they are insightful, they are they are the kind of thing you have to read a couple of times to digest. He is clearly brilliant and has both sides of his brain going full tilt boogie 100%. And I believe you had a few little factoids about Dom Perignon, which was mentioned in this episode, correct? Because you know I will love to talk about some wine, sparkling or otherwise.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, tell us some facts about the bigger one. Well, you had a few things to bring up.

SPEAKER_09

I think you noted, which I did not know this, this was uh created by a Benedictine monk who was a pioneer for quality amongst sparkling wines and champagne in particular. The first vintage was introduced in 1921, and it has a very distinct flavor profile.

SPEAKER_02

There is a almond champagne that I tried at um Cooper Hawk that was actually really very good. And I w uh Cooper Hawk is uh don't I wish. I wondered if it tasted similar. Um but yeah, I don't know what Dom tastes like. Is it very dry?

SPEAKER_09

It was it was BT Dubs, it was chosen for the wedding of Charles and Diana, and the bottle had a special insignia created just for their ceremony, so you can imagine what kind of collector's items those have turned into.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I've uh seen the like the bottle in real life, um, but I've not seen any of these like special limited editions. I would like to. After some quick searching, there is a book. It is called Theo, the autobiography of Theodore Bickle. And we will post the link on our stories for anyone who wants to read about this really interesting actor. I'm gonna buy this book. I really want to read it. So, in the episode 1977, the wine dom that he ordered was he shouted it was $280. So uh things have changed since the 70s. How much is a bottle today? A traditional regular of uh dotle. I've had a little and I'm the one drinking, ladies and gentlemen.

SPEAKER_09

It but I'm not driving. We do this podcast sitting down, so it's okay. Are you ready?
