Heads up, Angels. While our podcast is suitable for all ages, keep in mind these episodes were produced in a different era and may include scenes of danger, crime, or themes some listeners may find sensitive or outdated. When doing our rewatch, we do our very best to discuss everything with care, context, and compassion, and always with a love for the show and respect for our listeners. Last time on Good Morning, Charlie. I could use 500 or 1000, Mr. Harker. And I'm not stupid. You're pro? No, just a gifted amateur who's short of cash. And coming up. Hey, Violet, what it is. Oh, hi, Eddie. Uh Eddie Smith. Judy Burnley. Judy starts work today. What? Lady, you're gonna hate it if you do. And with me, as always, is Hi, everybody. It is Colby Smith. It is nice to join everyone again for our latest episode. Chris, what have you been up to? Really want to tackle you first. How is my fourth favorite ginger in the universe? I want to hear about your flippity-doo-daw, because last time we talked, you were on a on a clock. You were at a five. Have you made it to a six yet? So I did increase it to um 60. But after two days of doing that, I put it back to 45. Uh, because it just like it didn't feel right. Um, and I didn't feel the same kind of reliefs. Keep us posted. We have still yet to see a photo of you on your flippity-doo-daw, like Nadia Common Each. You asked I am uh today is a big day. Today's a very big day. First of all, well, I do have my hair up in a cute little bun because it's hot up. Sometimes I take my hair and take two strands and pull them back with a breath and a nice clasp. Sometimes I can wear it in a fringe twist, and then sometimes I just wear it in a ponytail, and other times I can take the two front strands and pull them in the back and attach them with a really cute clasp. Uh, first of all, today is Cher's 80th birthday. Big day for me. Big day for me because where two or more are gathered, there Cher is. Kylie Minogue's three-part documentary dropped on Netflix. I did. No, it was episodic. Yes, it's three at about an hour each. I've watched the first episode already. And as soon as we are done here, I'm gonna somersault down the steps onto my couch and watch the second one. I okay, and Kylie released, re-released four of her vinyl, two of which I did, making that money. And I want to everyone to hear one of the reasons I put up with Colby and his inability to answer a question without either A dramatic cause. What I did for you this morning. Let's start again. Without being asked, tell them what I did for you this morning. As I was saying, first of all, grown-ups are talking. As I was saying, the reason I put up with Colby's inability to answer a question the first time or answer it but through a series of dramatic pauses, which I then have to edit out, is because he can be our favorite. And in spite of the fact he interrupts me, and then I have to go back in and pull out that poor audio and replace it with better, is because he's so sweet sometimes. I did not know today was the release of the four vinyl. And without being asked, sweet Colby, my fourth favorite ginger on the planet, got me the one of the vinyls he knew I needed because he listens and remembers, unlike me, who does neither. And when we couldn't find the second one I needed, he went on a search and destroy mission and he found it. I am a pretty good gift giver. And well, I would also like everyone to hear, I'm paying him back. These aren't gifts. Are they gifts? Are they gifts? Uh actually, just today I got an email, finally, with a tracking number on it, for a gift for someone. And depending on how the rest of this episode goes, we'll see whether they get it or not. Is it that Christmas present you got for me that didn't ever come in? Yes, that I ordered a year ago. Yes it is. Wow. Give us all a hint. Can you believe that? No, give us all a hint. I've forgotten all about it. Um it is related to an attraction. Oh my god, it's a family-friendly attraction. It's a Mr. Toadswald ride something. That's exactly what it is. It's a Mr. Toadswald ride something. What is it? What is it? What is it? What is it? What is it? What is it? It is also being shipped to your house. I have a lot going on. And so, with that in mind, let's start today's assignment, shall we? Well, let's do it. Today's assignment, ladies and gentlemen, is terror on Ward 1. Season 1, episode 18. Colby, what's our case briefing? It is the night shift, and nurses at a local hospital are being attacked by an unknown person wearing scrubs and a surgical mask. The angels go undercover as nurses and a reporter to find and stop the attacker, while Bosley goes under the knife. I love it when everyone is involved and has something to do. Now, for your super secret intel. The original air date was February 16th, 1977. When I need you. Born in 1930, passed away in 1982. He's from New Jersey. He's an actor and a director. As an actor, he appeared in some Colby favorites, which I'll get to in a minute. He's known for several horror flicks he directed, such as Scream Blackula Scream, and many TV series, Wonder Woman, Starskin Hutch, Vegas, Hill Street Blues, Fame, which I love. Some of Colby's favorites he was in as an actor, though, hopping back to that. Twilight Zone, Outer Limit, The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, and Alfred Hitchcock Presents. Guest star alert, Art Johnson. He played Halverson, born in 1922, passed away in 1997 from Minneapolis, which was the setting for the Mary Tyler Moore show. And have I been there? Yes. Have I been to that house? Yes. Have I eaten at that hotel restaurant where she and Grant Tinker ate for the opening credits? Yes. But this is. Did you make it after all? Well, I would talk more about that, but this is really Arch Johnson's time to shine. He appeared in the original cast of West Side's Story, much like me, and is the only member of the cast to also appear in the 1980s revival. He is known for films such as The Sting in the Buddy Holly Story, and was a regular character actor on tons of pod faves, not the least of which would be Wonder Woman, The Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, Bewitched, The Monsters, and on The Bionic Woman as Police Commissioner Hodder in the two-episode arc, Jamie Shield. Love those episodes. We're going to do one more guest star alert. Fran Ryan, who played Nurse Fager. She is one of those faces you know when you look her up or when you see her in the episode, you think, Oh my god, she's been in everything. For 1916, passed away in 2000. She's from LA. She made her acting debut on stage in 1950. She was well known for being in the Doris Day Show and in such big screen hits as The Stripes and The Long Riders. She has a Hitchcock connection and family plot, and she's also big in voice acting. She's been in television shows, as I mentioned, all over the place. From The Rookies to Laverne and Shirley to Sigmund and the Sea Monster, even. Now, she has tons of Disney connections. She was a voice in Rescue Rangers. Do you know that one, Colby? Rescue Rangers. I watched Rescue Rangers of the Little One. I love that show. Is that sort of like your time period when you would come home from steel? That's funny. I've never heard of a rescue. And you would watch Disney afternoons. Yeah, this might be uh like starting school when the Rescue Rangers came out. That's great. I was a full-ass grown adult. Okay. Three episodes of the magical world of Disney in 1974 and 1986. And the Apple Dumpling Gang. Colby, do you know who starred in the Apple Dumpling Gang? I sure do not. Tim Conway and Don Knott. Do you remember it now? Kind of a Western game. I sure don't. All right then. The Million Doll Gang. Oh, we love Don Knott. Well, it's the and also the Million Dollar Duck, and we referenced the Million Dollar Duck in a previous episode with a guest star. The Dumpling Gang, too. I don't know about that, but I do know. I said you said to me, Why are you bringing no one's ever heard of the Million Dollar Duck? I'm like, you wait. You can always make a connection to the Million Dollar Duck. Or the Gnomobile. The Gnomobile. Oh, what a wonderful way to feel the Molly. She was also in a season three episode of Charlie's Angels, Pom Pom Angels. Mm-hmm. Great episode. Yes, and if I've not buttered the steps and pushed Colby down them by then, we'll break that down in the near future. Now we are going to get to the breakdown of this episode. Powerful enough to bridge space and time. The episode starts with an exchange between Dr. Danworth and a hospital administrator, Mr. Maine. The administrator asks the doctor if he's trying to work 25 hours in a day. The doctor comments on the surgery he just got out of and agrees he needs to rest. Then an exchange is seen between a male and female nurse, where Quincy, the male nurse, tries to come on to the other nurse and is swiftly rejected. Talking about brain surgery, I happen to know this quaint little place that serves a great pizza. Quincy, save the slap and the tickle for the student nurses, okay? The female nurse then turns on her heels and goes back into the OR to attend to resetting the surgery suite. An unknown person comes in, covered head to toe in surgical scrubs, and very forcefully throws the nurse around the room. She escapes and runs down the hall as we hear Cannes screaming on repeat, clearly not coming from this actress. Have you seen the Charlie's Angels Dolls and Adventures? Charlie's Angels. Beautiful dolls will help beautiful. Sabrina, Jill, and Kelly. They're Charlie's Angels. And they've got clothes that let you imagine them in daring adventures by day, and then turn them into glamorous outfits at night. Charlie's Angels, Dolls and Adventure, Newfoundland Hasbro. Dolls outfits and accessories also sold separately. Welcome back, everyone. I've had a lovely few seconds of screaming down the hallway. Let's get he's going after some wine. First of all, you don't know me, and secondly, I think everyone would like to hear my vintage buzz-off figure still remains fine and upright after his near-death experience has fallen of dirty clothes. But what I think is more interesting is some talk about uh the attack that happened last night and that student nurse. Right. We are now at the agency. Mr. Main in the previous scene is divulging the occurrences to Charlie and the team and mentions that a student nurse was attacked last week and it shared all the same details as the attack from last night. Kelly shares her idea of she and Jill going undercover as student nurses, and Sabrina has decided to be a reporter for a medical journal. Bosley, however, has been complaining about his toe due to a bone spur, and Bosley, as a patient, can communicate with Charlie as needed. Bosley is fearful of having surgery and is essentially pouting at the assignment. Uh this scene is so cute. The back and forth between Bosley and the angels feels so much like sibling teasing when Bosley points his finger at Jill and then she points hers right back at him. It is j it's so heartwarming. I love it so, so much. Wait a minute. Bosley is a patient that's a perfect cover. It's a very simple surgery, Bosley. Please, that is one of my unfavorite words. Bosley, you're not afraid of going under that knife. That is another of my unfavorite words. Bosley, I agree with the girls. You should be hospitalized. It's okay, honey. No, it's not okay, honey. No. Jill is now in her nurse's uniform and is at lunch and asks to sit with Nurse Farragut, played by Sally Carter Ilnut, and Nurse Mason, played by Bobby Mitchell. Jill asks questions about what's been going on. The nurses play off their concern a bit, and Jill asks, who was nearby during the attack? The only men around that the nurses mention are Dr. Danworth and Quincy, the kissing intern. No, there was Quincy, the kissing intern. The kissing intern? Yeah. The guy over there in the corner. If he starts talking about pizza, run for your life. Thank you. See you. Okay. Quincy is played by Robert Lipton. He is in such shows as The Mod Squad, Police Story, Murder She Wrote, and one of my favorite 80s horror movies, Death Spa. You have to watch it. It is bonkers. A bonkers movie. Both nurses excuse themselves from the table they're at with Jill. And they uh do not pick up their dishes. They just leave them on the table, very rude. Uh, but as soon as they depart, Jill gets the attention of Quincy, who is sitting at a table in the corner. Quincy strolls and strikes up a conversation, and then strikes up a time to meet Jill later in the evening. Bosley is situated in a room and is being seen by Dr. Danworth. The doctor is looking at Bosley's toe. Bosley is being a bit of a baby. Uh, and then we get some exposition about Bosley being assigned to this room because Halverson was nearby during the attack, as was Bosley's attending, Dr. Danworth. So Bosley's put in a very good position. Uh he's being given specifically the doctor who was nearby during the most recent attack, as was Halverson. Uh, so if Bosley sort of trips up on any information, uh, he can report it uh to Charlie and the Angels. Halverson, again played by Arch Johnson, is escorted into the room by Nurse Fager, played by Fran Ryan, uh, and a ruthless exchange is had between the two. Uh, once Fager leaves, Halverson then starts in on Bosley. Uh later in the evening, Halverson sneaks out of the room, shared with Bosley, and then next we hear a scream and an orderly yelling to Sabrina and Kelly that Nurse Farragut is hurt. Farragut is on the floor near a broken window and mumbles that the attacker was wearing a surgical mask. Sabrina picks up some yellow pills that could have been left by the attacker. Oddly, Halverson then returns to the room in a huff. The angels briefly convene with the administrator Maine in his office, which eerily looks familiar to a certain general's office and episode 10, Bullseye. They discuss the recent attack and the pills found near Nurse Farragut. The administrator explains to the angels it is a new drug, hypodroxine, an upper that could cause emotional side effects if too much of the drug is taken. The angels will try to find out who may be using the drugs at the hospital. Jill is then reminded that it is time to meet with the kissing intern, and Kelly and Sabrina advise Jill not to push too hard, considering they are still at a loss on suspects. The angel that picks the lock is Kelly, and she is picking the lock to Dr. Danworth's office. Uh, and of course, then does some snooping. Danworth has three prescription bottles in his desk drawer of hychodroxine. I can't say hycodroxine without thinking of the bionic woman with the new drug, adrenalazine. I don't know how they came up with these in the 70s. But they came up with the best drug names. The medicine left behind at the last attack. Two of the bottles are empty, implying that the doctor has been taking the medicine for a while or has taken a lot of the medicine in a short period of time. Jill is escorted into Quincy's pizza place. And I'm unsure if this is like a nurse's lounge area. Uh, and if it is, does everyone want it to be decorated like an Italian restaurant? If the room is not a nurse's lounge, who lets an intern bring in a bed and a microwave? I am it's just like I totally understand that nurses, you know, work long shifts and need a place to lie down, but there are like fake grapes. There are posters of Italy on the wall. Then Quincy and Jill proceed to drink at work. He opens a bottle of wine to pour for them both. And a very awkward exchange is had where Jill comes on pretty strong, and this makes Quincy clam up. I also notice that his name tag says Dr. Quincy. Quincy is agitated, and I don't understand why particularly. And after Jill has finished rubbing a wine glass all over her face while she's talking to him, uh, she leaves Quincy with his pizza. Jill and Kelly reconvene and discuss Quincy's inability to sort of stick the landing. And they posit that Quincy's inability to score may make him frustrated or angry enough to attack and attempt rape. Question mark. Kelly then reiterates the word attempt. All of the attacks have been attempts. Uh then they are interrupted by moans coming from down the hall and discover a nurse on the floor. Jill hears noise coming from a supply closet. As she peeks in to see who the culprit is, she is then slammed against the nurse's station and the gown figure barrels down the hallway. The suspects seem to be piling up. Dr. Danworth could have stolen the hykodroxine from the supply closet. The kissing intern, Quincy, maybe frustrated enough to attack. And Halverson certainly picked the wrong time to sneak out of his room. We then get a brief scene where Bosley gets some information delivered from the agency, and Halverson then switches their medication, giving Bosley his sleeping pill. Sabrina is trying to get information out of Farragut, who divulges that Dr. Danworth has been very odd lately and has been seen taking hykodroxine. Farragut already believes she's said too much and then introduces Sabrina to Ted Blaine, an orderly. We follow Ted to Bosley's room. Blaine discovers Halverson in his cities, and then when asking Halverson if he's been discharged, Halverson knocks him out and um hides him in a closet. This is uh kind of an unexpected turn of events. Before Halverson leaves, he switches his chart and IV bracelet with Bosley's. Then we get a really sweet moment between Sabrina and Bosley. Oh Sabrina, I'm glad to see you. I'm glad to see you too, Bosley. Charlie said over a computer. I mean a computer, computer readout. I can't seem to wake up this morning. And also, we discover from uh the background research done by Charlie, Dr. Danworth was sued, but found innocent several years ago for malpractice due to the death of a former patient named Macduff, whose son is Ted Blaine. Ted serendipitously happens to hear this discovery from the closet where he was stashed by Halverson. Bosley is then mistaken for Halverson due to the swap and is wheeled away for surgery. One of the uh nurses or orderlies that come in uh to wheel Bosley away. Uh, he his character name is Sharp. He's played by Ray either Vite or Viddy. Uh, he is also the mailroom clerk in one of my favorite movies, Nine to Five, and this makes me unreasonably happy. Poor Bosley becomes slightly more coherent just in time to realize that he's getting wheeled away for surgery. Sabrina is now putting together that due to Ted's father's death and Danworth being found innocent of that malpractice suit, Ted has come to this hospital under the guise of another name to frame Danworth and get his revenge. Kelly is checking Dr. Danworth's office again to see if there's a new stash of the medicine after the theft. Kelly finds Danworth unconscious or dead, it's really kind of unclear, at his desk with a tight note and pills spilled out. The note apologizes for attacking the women. Uh Kelly then attempts to call for help, but a masked gun-wielding attacker stops Kelly and tells her to take a handful of pills. The two then wrestle as Jill bangs on the office door, and fortunately, Kelly is able to subdue the attacker and let Jill in the office. Jill and Kelly then both discover the attacker is Nurse Farragut. Sabrina asks orderly Ted Blaine if she can ask him some questions, and they take the elevator down to the basement to check the air conditioning. Ted asks Sabrina to then stop playing games, and Ted reveals uh that he knows she is aware that Danworth killed his father, and that they, whoever they are, plan to destroy Danworth's reputation and to kill him. Ted then attacks Sabrina with a lead pipe and chases Sabrina around the basement of the hospital. Kelly and Jill race to Sabrina's rescue and at gunpoint stop Ted's attack, likely having learned the plan from the subdued nurse Farragut. The Angels are now wrapping things up with Charlie on the phone at the hospital. Charlie found out that Halverson ran out on his ex-wife and didn't want to pay alimony and thought his ex-wife had hired the angels to find him. More exposition is given that Farragut is somehow Ted's mother, which is not possible because these two actors are six years apart. I don't know who looked at the two and was like, sure, they can pass as mother and son. Maybe she's like a a stepmother who, you know, married McDuff, um, and they're not actually um blood related. Who knows? Who knows? Or maybe they just don't care, like when Cher played Meryl Streep's mother and Mamma Mia too, and they're just That is a great example of two people who could not be mother and daughter. They wanted to disgrace Danworth for killing Macduff. They were responsible for the supposed attempted rapes happening at the hospital as well. The angels spot Bosley being wheeled out of the elevator and commend his bravery for having the surgery. The nurses asked why the angels are calling him Bosley. Bosley! Bosley, you did it! Bosley had his surgery. We're so proud of you. Who are you talking to? We're talking to him. Who do you think we're talking to? Boy, they're good. They didn't even leave a mark. Let's see any stitches. Where are the stitches? In his size. Where else? In his size? What are the stitches doing in his size? What's wrong? What happened? Nothing's wrong. Everything came out fine. What came out? His appendix? Oh my gosh. His appendix? Bosley, why did you let them take your appendix out? Why do you people keep calling Bosley? Because that's his name, you dummy. Halverson? See? Halverson. Bosley, what are you doing with Halverson's ID on? I don't know. You mean he's not Halverson? No, he's not Halverson. His name is Bosley. He came in and had surgery on his toe. You took his appendix out. Well you can't win them all. Where are we going now? The embarrassed nurses then breeze over the fact that someone has had the wrong surgery and quickly cart Bosley off, I assume, to prepare for an enormous lawsuit. I have a couple of guest star tidbits, if I may. Would this be a good time? Sure, that'd be great. Alright, there was one guest star who played the orderly Ted Blaine. Michael McGreevy is his name. He's an actor, producer, writer. He began acting at age seven and has been in, well, you name it, lots and lots of pod fades in one way or another. For example, he wrote for Deep Space Nine, he wrote for Wonder Woman and the Incredible Hulk, the fame TV show, and he has a bajillion Disney connections. He was in many, many Disney movies, three of them with Kurt Russell in the late 60s and early seventies, those being The Computer War Tennis Shoes, Now You See Him, Now You Don't, and The Strongest Man in the World. Additionally, he was on a small screen in the magical world of Disney. In five of their, I guess you would call them anthologies. He was in Texas John Slaughter, we've referenced that in the pod. Sammy the Way Out Seal. For the Love of Willadine, The Wacky Zoo of Morgan City, and Michael O'Hara the Fourth. And you know I love me. A Disney connection. A Disney Connection. Mm-hmm. Now we have Nurse Farragut, who is played by Sally Carter on it. She was born in 1942 in LA. She's been in film and TV. Lots of fun things. The Alfred Hitchcock Hour. This is our second reference to that. My favorite Martian, The Rookies, Police Story, and one of my all-time favorites we've yet to bring up on the pod, and that is the Dick Van Dyke Show. I wonder when the United States' first malpractice case was. That is an interesting question. They took his appendix. Yeah. And what if he needed that for, I don't know, for Christmas or something. What if he needed that? Yeah. If only we had some background information you could get excited about and say, To me, it's the goons. The history of medical malpractice in the United States dates back to 1794, just four years after George Washington was inaugurated. The first malpractice case was reported in the U.S. The plaintiff claimed a doctor promised to do an operation skillfully, but did the opposite. The plaintiff's wife died as a result of the operation. He won the case and received 40 English pounds. I wonder how much 40 English pounds would be in today's money. So 40 pounds roughly today would be about 55 US dollars, I think. Well, actually I can tell you. So I don't know what that would be like. I guess we'd just see how much um $55 would be worth today from 1794. I can't tell you how much I have the answer and want to tell you so bad. So bad. That would be worth in US dollars today in 2026, $9,250. That is not as much as I thought it would be. Mm-mm. I'm a little let down by that. Yeah, I thought it would be like close to $100,000, maybe. I had a really solid plan, I thought, to go into a piggly wiggly and have a slip down that would no that. So you were missing your super glue and and your uh dispenser? I have a trauma anchor related to that incident at Michael's, and how dare you bring this is why I drink. I'm gonna have to have a sip of wine. Colby, thank you for guiding us through this great episode in season one of Charlie's Angels. It had everything, it had medical mishaps, it had found medication, which is my favorite kind of medication. It's a little something for everyone. Just laying around. What is this? I really love the moments that we get with the angels in Bosley in this episode. Uh maybe some of my favorite, like the um the opening sh uh scene with them and the agency in Bosley, one of my favorite in this season. Uh again, really heartwarming.
