Hey, don't touch that dial. You're listening to the Townsend Agency's number one choice for news radio, KBEX. Now, after a weather and traffic update, we're going to have an all-new episode of Good Morning Charlie, a Charlie's Angels rewatch podcast. Stay tuned to KBEX, all news radio.
SPEAKER_02Heads up, Angels. While our podcast is suitable for all ages, keep in mind these episodes were produced in a different era and may include scenes of danger, crime, or themes some listeners may find sensitive or outdated. When doing our rewatch, we do our very best to discuss everything with care, context, and compassion. And always with a love for the show and respect for our listeners.
SPEAKER_15Last time on Good Morning Charlie, the space visitors are just like no invasions like your feet. We have one very definitive stick.
SPEAKER_06Point absolutely not.
SPEAKER_15The difference is in there's probably coming up.
SPEAKER_06I got a couple hours before I have to go up again.
SPEAKER_05So you are about to get you late.
SPEAKER_06I told my mother I'd never do that, but I may run around with them a little bit.
SPEAKER_08Definitely.
SPEAKER_10Hi, everybody. It is Colby Smith. So glad to be back with you. Thank you for joining us. Chris, how are you doing? How is your sister? How are all the things?
SPEAKER_02Well, it's about damn time you asked a question about me. I was beginning to feel left out. Let's let's pretend like that was a well-thought-out question and not just how you doing. Because we have talked about your cruise. We have talked about Alaska. We have talked about how you sort of chartered a vehicle. We've talked about your pumpkins, your dead pumpkins, your new pumpkins. What about me?
SPEAKER_12What about Debbie?
SPEAKER_02I would like for you to ask me a thought-out question. Tell uh go, go.
SPEAKER_10Chris, what are you looking forward to this weekend? I know you're very excited.
SPEAKER_02I am going to be driving so much for work this weekend. I love my job, I love what I do, but I hate driving. I hate being behind the wheel. The moment I get behind the wheel of a car, I am thinking about how soon I can get out from behind that wheel of that car. So I'll be doing a lot of driving, and I'll be driving uh one one of the trips will be to Atlanta. I'm going to a little toy convention, vintage toy convention.
SPEAKER_10What is today's assignment, Chris?
SPEAKER_02That's all I get.
SPEAKER_10Well everybody said a question.
SPEAKER_02I just I just I just wanted a ballerina Barbie.
SPEAKER_03Aren't I a human being? Don't I yearn and ache and shock?
SPEAKER_02Since Colby doesn't give a rat, so you know what about me, let's hop on into episode 10 of what season? Why thank you for asking? I appreciate that.
SPEAKER_00Oh, thank you very much.
SPEAKER_02Season two, Angels on the Air.
SPEAKER_10And here is your case briefing. Joy Vance, a roaming reporter for KBEX, has been receiving threats, and after being fired upon while on the job, the station turns to the Townsend agency to uncover who is behind it. The Angels and Bosley all become undercover employees at the station. And the Angels investigate leads from previous stories Vance produced to come up with the suspects.
SPEAKER_02Thank you, Colby. Now, this is a radio station or a TV station?
SPEAKER_10It is an all-news radio station called KBEX. Oh, that's very helpful.
SPEAKER_02Now that we know we're in a radio station, an all-news radio station here is your super secret intel. The original air date, November 9th, 1977. Oh, Colby, wasn't it a delight to hear Debbie Boone again? Because we have several many more weeks of Debbie Boone.
SPEAKER_10Well, I think we've had four weeks, is that right? And just six more to go.
SPEAKER_0249 minutes. Just the rest of season two. The rest of 49 minutes. Written by William Froog. He was born in 1922, and by the time he wrote Angels on the Air, he'd already produced The Twilight Zone, Gilligan's Island, Bewitched, won an Emmy, worked with Rod Serling, and served as a CBS programming executive. Now here is the really fun fact about William Frog. This episode is about, now we know, thank goodness, because it dovetails perfectly with what I'd written. Radio! And this guy was the perfect guy to write it. He had tons of experience in Yield Time Radio. He actually predates television. He worked at CBS Radio and eventually became VP of programs for CBS Radio Hollywood before transitioning into television. How cool is that, Colby?
SPEAKER_10Very cool. I love hearing about the transition from radio to television. I think it's really interesting.
SPEAKER_02It is people like Betty White, Lucy. Precisely, yeah, and someone we talked about recently who was a guest star on the show, Phil Silvers. Look at that. Look at my memory kicking in. Ask me what show he was on.
SPEAKER_10What show was Phil Silvers on? I don't know.
SPEAKER_02I'm not a witch, but he had the Phil Silvers show. He sure did. He was in the Charlie's Angels episode where he yelled a lot. And it was in a wood-paneled office. Correct. Oh. There might have been some ice skates. Boris and Natasha at the circus. No, wait, right. Well, I'll figure it out eventually. It was directed by George W. Brooks. He directed three episodes of Charlie's Angels. We mentioned him back during the seance breakdown. And he directed the upcoming season two episode, Angels on Horseback. And I sure hope they do a better job of being on horseback than they did in the episode Angel in Love.
SPEAKER_10I don't know that they could do a worse job, but we're going to find out.
SPEAKER_02There's nowhere to go but up. Well, there is somewhere to go. We're going to go to our break, because the debrief is about to begin. So we'll segue. Well, it was going to be great until you interrupted me. Jesus Lord. God, that was going to be seamless. That was an award-winning segue. But then that ginger had to pipe up. We'll be back, maybe.
SPEAKER_17All weekend.
SPEAKER_06Well, I guess you're stuck with this then.
SPEAKER_17Stuck with TV Satisfaction Guaranteed with another TV Lamb Fandemonium Weekend. In one weekend, you're guaranteed 35 hazardous predicaments. 24 Dyer Street. And 35 perilous flights. How many is that again?
SPEAKER_1235, 24, 35.
SPEAKER_17That's a lot of reasons to watch. This fan selected at TVLand.com, Charlie's Angels, all this weekend for TV satisfaction guaranteed only on TV Land.
SPEAKER_06Little green pointed ears.
SPEAKER_02Here we are, back against my will and ready to begin the debrief of Angels. On the what? Air.
SPEAKER_10A station wagon marked KBEX, riddled with antennae, is driving around in the dark on a deserted road. The lady reporter radios into the station stating that she is at the assignment location, to which her colleague replies, the instructions were Beamer Park, South Entrance. Joy steps out to take a look around as a rifle can be seen aiming from the bushes. A shot is fired into the windshield of the wagon, and Joy quickly flees. During this scene, when Joy is talking to her editor, Gary.
SPEAKER_04Gary, Gary, Gary, Gary, Gary, Gary, Gary, Gary, Gary, Gary, Gary, Gary, Gary, Gary, Gary, Gary, Gary, Gary, Gary, Gary, Gary, Gary, Gary, Gary.
SPEAKER_10Uh, via the radio, the woman immediately beside him is Sis Rundle, Cheryl Ladd Standin. So this is the uh fourth time, I believe, we've seen her, and many, many, many more to come. Joy Vance is at the agency office explaining to the Angels that a call was received at the station, and the caller left a message of tell Vance she won't live to regret that story. So far, the bullet is all the team has to go on. Joy shares she covers potentially dozens of assignments each week. Therefore, narrowing down suspects attached to a previous story will be quite an undertaking.
SPEAKER_06Sabrina theorizes So the people who listen to you on the radio, they don't know what she looks like.
SPEAKER_07Charlie, if one of our voices was similar to Joy's, couldn't we make a switch and fool the listeners?
SPEAKER_10Bosley reveals that through the help of recordings and radio engineers, it has been determined that Kelly's voice matches Joy's voice to the closest degree, and Kelly will be undercover as Joy. Sabrina is assigned as the Eye in the Sky reporting from the helicopter, and Chris will be undercover, maybe not necessarily working as a station employee. And Boz will be the new assignments editor.
SPEAKER_02Fabulous. What was the plural of antenna?
SPEAKER_10Antennae.
SPEAKER_02Well done. Since we won't see Joy for a hot moment, let's do a quick guest star alert for good old Joy Vance. No relation to Bob Vance of Vance Refrigeration.
SPEAKER_08Hi guys. Does everyone know my boyfriend, Bob Vance?
SPEAKER_11Kevin Malone. Bob Vance, Vance Refrigeration. Stanley Hudson. Bob Vance, Vance Refrigeration.
SPEAKER_14Ryan Howard.
SPEAKER_11Bob Vance, Vance Refrigeration.
SPEAKER_02Well, Lana, work you in, Bob. She is played by Linda Dano. She was a future daytime soap superstar and Emmy winner. She also appeared twice on the $6 million man, three times on the Rockford Files. I mean, you find something you like, you stick to it, including an episode of the Rockford Files with none other than Lindsay Wagner. She also appeared in the Hardy Boys Nancy Drew Mysteries. There's going to be a fun connection about that next week. And when she appeared in this episode, she was only months away from beginning the daytime soap career that would eventually make her a television institution with seven daytime eminoms and one win in 1993 for outstanding lead actress.
SPEAKER_10At the radio station, the Angels meet with editor Gary.
SPEAKER_04Gary! Gary! Gary! Gary! Gary, Gary, Gary!
SPEAKER_10The only other station employee who knows who the Angels are. The Angels are shown around the station and shown equipment that they will use. The editor Gary informs Sabrina that the suspect at the station is employee Buck Willis, a very macho war veteran who was in Vietnam flying helicopters. Joy was partnered with Buck in the Air, and when Joy started receiving more praise than Buck, he got jealous and angry and threatened Joy.
SPEAKER_02What about Buck?
SPEAKER_12What about Debbie?
SPEAKER_10Joy has also done some legwork for the Angels and has left files of individuals who she identified as suspects. Bosley jokes that the agency may be too dull after this case.
SPEAKER_14Bosley's ready. Oh boy, is he ready.
SPEAKER_05Oh yeah. The agency may be a little dull after this.
SPEAKER_07Oh, Bosley, I hope we don't lose you to Barbara Walters.
SPEAKER_10There is something about this scene that makes me feel like something was cut out and we're missing a part. David Doyle's laugh looks and sounds so genuine that I feel like maybe there was more to that exchange. I could be wrong, uh, but just the look on his face looks like he was genuinely laughing at whatever the response was. If not great acting, uh, but I really do want to know whether or not we missed something. Bosley is being shown how to adjust the frequency on the station radio, and we learn that in college Bosley worked on the paper. The editor Gary then alludes that when Bosley worked on a paper, might have been quite a number of years ago. Bosley does not look pleased. The Angels are reviewing the suspects identified by Joy. A Dwayne Hansen. Dwayne served 18 months in prison for selling stolen motorcycle parts. Dwayne believes that Joy's story prejudiced the jury against him at trial, and Dwayne threatened to kill Joy. Professor Arthur Croydon claimed to have discovered an antitoxin against the common cold. Joy did a story on the discovery and talked to half a dozen scientists who asserted that Croydon's work was based on false data. The professor blames Joy for his ruined reputation. The last suspect is Ernie Quinland, accused of beating his wife. Joy interviewed his wife Martha while she was in the hospital. Ernie sued Joy for invasion of privacy. And while we're looking at all of these suspects, there's a little dossier on them with their pictures. And I don't think the image that we see of Martha on this file is the actress that we are gonna meet very soon in this episode. For some reason, this suspect sparks a particular interest in Kelly and she wants to check this one out. But before Kelly leaves, the editor makes a point of letting Kelly know to always carry a roll of dimes to call in using a landline phone. There are parts of the city that the radio won't work in as well as common places like a parking garage or a ravine. Is this an ominous foreshadowing for Kelly? While covering a fire being actively put out, Kelly can be heard broadcasting. This prompts a man to call Bosley at the station.
SPEAKER_05KBX All News Radio, editor's desk. Tell Joy fans. She won't live to regret that story. Tell her to get off the air. Who is this? What story are you talking about?
unknownPlease don't.
SPEAKER_05Because I won't miss the next time.
SPEAKER_10At least we know Kelly is being mistaken for Joy, though. Now, both ladies may be in danger. Kelly follows up with Martha Quinlan and meets Father Palimbo, who informs Kelly that Mr. Quinlan died from a heart attack two days prior to her visit. One suspect is off the list just in time for Sabrina to meet Buck Willis. Sabrina, as Skylark, is in the air with Buck reporting on weather and traffic. After the reporting, Buck takes Sabrina on a little joy flight and shows her some maneuvers that I think Buck believes will scare or make Sabrina sick. I almost believe that maybe had he kept going, she might have gotten sick.
SPEAKER_13Your place! My house we're gonna become friends! I don't want to be friends!
SPEAKER_10We catch up with Chris, who is near a place called Chatsworth, checking out Dwayne Hansen. Chris is wearing a crimped wig that is dying of thirst. Her ensemble is really well put together. It looks well worn. The clothes look inexpensive like everyday wear. As Chris attempts to make her bike look like it quit working on her, she is surprised by Dwayne and his harem. Now, in this image, Joane, of course, is in the forefront, and all of these women are behind him. And looking at this family, their dress, I am wondering, is it indicative of a sort of 70s cult slash cloistered community who is kind of living off the grid and maybe has a different mentality than one would expect of mainstream America? Chris, if you if you can remember, is does this look accurate? Like what is this what you would expect to see of people who were kind of living on the fringes of society?
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah, it's exactly what I wore to kindergarten every single day.
SPEAKER_10Just a burlap skirt and a halter top.
SPEAKER_02Me? Thank you for asking. I just wear what fits. Oh, what made you pick that out? Girl is what fit me today might not fit me tomorrow. So kind of. I I was not startled by it enough to barely make note of it until I saw your notes for this episode, and then I perked on it a little bit. I've been nothing but a huge disappointment this entire episode.
SPEAKER_10I Cheryl does some really great acting in this scene. Uh much like Unidentified Flying Angels, her body language changes as well as her vocabulary. And for a tiny split second, she almost breaks character laughing at the cosmic nonsense that Dwayne is spouting. Uh Cheryl has really put thought into who this undercover character is, and I really want to take the time to just commend her for thinking beyond um, you know, the moment that she's in. I do think she has sat and thought, like, who is this person on this bike that would be coming to meet Dwayne to fool them? Uh, I just think she, again, she does another really good job. Back with Sabrina, the chopper stops by Buck's house. Uh, this house we will see again in the opening of season three, Angels in Vegas. Buck cuts to the chase after entering the house and asks Sabrina if the rifle he just grabbed is what she is looking for. Sabrina incredulously asks, What on earth Buck is talking about? But Buck decides to show Sabrina what a good shot he is. This, which Sabrina mentions, does seem kind of pointless, especially if the goal was simply to threaten Joy and not actually shoot her, but to get her to quit her job and leave the station.
SPEAKER_06Buck explains How about her success at doing your job? Didn't that make you a little jealous?
SPEAKER_13Sure, it bothered me. This is all I do. If she could fly, they'd given her the chopper. So I got drunk. And I said a few nasty, angry things, but I did not say that I would kill her.
SPEAKER_10And then he hands Sabrina bullets from his rifle so that they can check them. That is another suspect off the list. I really like Buck a lot. We we've seen this actor uh in Angels on Wheels. I think he has a little bit more to chew on in this episode. Uh Buck very The character is wonderful. I think it's a likable character. And this actor does a really good job with the sort of abbreviated story that he gets. We meet Chris again in the woods with Duane, spouting more transcendental existential fluff, as well as mentioning his interview with Joy Vance. Duane is hunting for lunch and misses a shot at a rabbit, providing Chris with the opportunity to snag a spent bullet for comparison. Duane proves himself to be just another creep, and of course starts forcing himself on Chris because of karma and his plasma being on fire, which sounds really gross.
SPEAKER_14It's our karma.
SPEAKER_08Duane, lunch first.
SPEAKER_14First, my toes.
SPEAKER_08But my karma isn't ready yet.
SPEAKER_14You're not listening to it. It's like I told you, I'm a blood-boiling man and you're sitting by plasma on fire.
SPEAKER_07I mean, I'm warning you.
SPEAKER_14Woman, you're turning me on!
SPEAKER_07Hold it right there. She lied to us. She's a fake.
SPEAKER_10Chris is saved by the harem, who interrupts to inform Dwayne that Chris is a phony, a deceiver. That's an imposter!
SPEAKER_08An imposter!
SPEAKER_10Chris comes clean about being a follow-up reporter, and Dwayne reveals that it is because of Joy and the attention from her story that Dwayne has ascended to a higher level of consciousness, which in reality means that he was contacted about having a documentary made about him and his family, and he thanks Joy for it and is not a threat to Joy anymore. That is three suspects off the list.
SPEAKER_02Thank you for giving me this time to reflect, Colby. While I was tuned out completely, I had time to really think back.
SPEAKER_10To think existentially about what cults might wear.
SPEAKER_02Mm-hmm. And what it would feel like to have your plasma on fire. And if anybody knows what that feels like, it's you between your camping and cruising excursions and wanton reckless hot tub endeavors. This is going to be my second reference to the office of this episode. I'm going to talk a little bit about guest star Larry Golden. There's an ongoing dialogue amongst fans of The Office, the American version of The Office, about how you have Dwight, but John Krasinski pronounces it Dwight. Some people say Dwight, others people others will say Dwight. So in your honor, I'm gonna call Larry Golden's character a Dwayne. Larry's playing Dwayne Hansen, and he appeared just one month earlier. Call me one month earlier on Wonder Woman in the Bermuda Triangle Crisis. Nothing is more critical than a crisis in the Bermuda Triangle. What kind of triangle? The Bermuda.
SPEAKER_01Nobody gets out of the Bermuda Triangle, not even for a vacation. Everyone knows that.
SPEAKER_02He was also a four-time guest star on Little House on the Prairie, playing four different characters. Talk about range! And he appeared in Bonanza, Happy Days, Canada Mod Squad. He also later appeared in Peter Fonda's Wanda Nevada with Brooke Shields and Henry Fonda. Fun fact! I love tossing in these fun facts. Colby has no idea what I'm going to say when I hit a fun fact. When he guest starred on Happy Days, Michelle Nichols, who we just talked about and unidentified flying angels, appears in that very same episode, and this was in October 1976. About a year before the two episodes of Charlie's Angels I just referenced. What do you think about that, Colby? That's called research.
SPEAKER_06You're so brave and so authentic. And immediately you were like, she's so brave and beautiful.
SPEAKER_10It just puts my plasma on fire. Boz and Sabrina are discussing Buck, and that the bullets he provided did not match the bullet fired at Joy. That leaves them with the final suspect to explore, Professor Croydon. Sabrina listened to the last recorded interview, which included a threat from Croydon. He teaches at Western Pacific University, and Sabrina is leaving now to go check him out. Sabrina finds the professor on the track and tells him she was a graduate student from another university studying immunology. Sabrina says that she wants to volunteer for him, and they agree to meet later, and we are going to catch up with Kelly.
SPEAKER_02Girl, what's she doing?
SPEAKER_10Kelly is out at Marshall Road in Highway 17 for a liquor store holdup, but in reality, she is in the middle of nowhere. Bosley recognizes this as a trap and urges Kelly to leave. As Kelly drives away, a car pulls out and the driver aims a rifle and fires, and then a chase ensues, but Kelly loses contact with Bosley on the radio. Sabrina discovers the trouble and tells Bosley that she is going to Kelly's location in the chopper. Fortunately, Buck and Sabrina can radio Kelly, but not before the unknown driver in the balaclava catches up to Kelly. Kelly is forced off the road and decides to abandon the car and run. Buck and Sabrina miraculously spot the radio station wagon, and Buck, who is a terrific flyer, uses the helicopter's rear propeller to kick up dirt and blind the driver pursuing Kelly. After some expert flying, the driver flees and Kelly is safe, and we get a lovely little nod to the $6 million man.
SPEAKER_07Alright! Yeah, I'm fine. Did he get away? Yeah, it's okay. We got his license from you. I'm fine. Fine. Okay, and the bionic man get started this way.
SPEAKER_02You are a bundle of surprises. Do you know that, Colby?
SPEAKER_10Yeah, every now and then.
SPEAKER_02I sit here and I hear you say things such as, I don't know, off the top of my head, Bobtails and Dwayne.
SPEAKER_13Where did you go to school?
SPEAKER_02And then you are describing somebody and just pop out with the word balaclava, and you've done that before this episode.
SPEAKER_10That's an item.
SPEAKER_02And you well, you're describing what he's wearing. Listen, grown-ups are talking. I'm trying to give you a compliment. You're you're an enigma, you're multifaceted, much like Miss Latoya Jackson.
SPEAKER_10I'm just though I say Dwayne because growing up, I had a friend whose name was Duane. He pronounced it Dwayne. Uh just stuck.
SPEAKER_02Playing Buck is Taylor Locker, not to be confused with Taylor Lautner, who was a werewolf. We discussed him all the way back, it seems like years, doesn't it? Season one's Angels on Wheels, but I do not believe we really spent enough time discussing this one aspect of Taylor's career. That's the fact he, uh Taylor Locker, was a bionic double dip. And I'm gonna start tracking this bionic double dip. It's a BDD. He appeared in both the $6 million man and the Bionic Woman. He had a major film role opposite Charles Bronson and Mr. Majestic. Also, both that was in 1974. Also, though, in 1974, for cult horror fans, he played Rick in the Devil Times Five, which is rather notorious because it's about a group of homicidal children. And I would like you to show me a group of children who aren't halfway homicidal. You don't, you don't need, you don't need who's it's from weapons to make that happen. Do you know this horror movie, Devil Times Five?
SPEAKER_10I know of the horror movie, and I want to say it's been remade as well. Um, there are a few, of course, killer children horror movies. Name three play with dead things, The Children, and Bloody Birthday.
SPEAKER_02Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_10So that's three.
SPEAKER_02What about Children of the Corn?
SPEAKER_10Oh, love Children of the Corn. Linda Hamilton. Uh, can't get enough of that movie. It's so enjoyable.
SPEAKER_02He wants you to Alakai. There is a lot of Devil Times Five on IMDB. Well, I'm very confused. Let me get back on track. Weapons, Gladys, Redheads, Colby.
SPEAKER_10Yes, it all comes back to that plasma on fire.
SPEAKER_02That was another segue. Thank you for not interrupting that one. I'm brilliantly producing segues of this evening.
SPEAKER_01That was the bravest thing I've ever seen. That was the bravest thing I've ever seen. That was the bravest thing I've ever seen.
SPEAKER_10The team reconvenes at the station to discover the car chasing Kelly was reported stolen. Bosley thinks it may be necessary to pull back a little from being in the field, but Sabrina is late to meet with the professor at the university. Sabrina arrives, and we are in the office used in I Will Be Remembered and probably other episodes as well. While Sabrina is meeting with the professor, Bosley gets a call from the lieutenant that the stolen car belongs to a student at Western Pacific University. And then Kelly remembers the driver of the car was wearing a ski mask. And then the team makes haste to the university. The professor appears to be quizzing Sabrina. I'm not sure why this matters because he wastes zero time sticking Sabrina in the arm with what we do not know. Now, I was not around in the 70s, so I hope that this is not the way that clinical trials were conducted 50 years ago. But I probably don't want to know the answer. Since, believe it or not, women were not required by law to be included in clinical trials until 1993. Because science works best when you exclude more than half the population. Sabrina becomes dizzy from the serum, which is not the professor's anti-toxin cold serum, but is in fact sodium pentathol. That is truth serum that we've covered before. The professor knows Sabrina lied, and now she will tell him what she really wants. The professor bemoans that Joy ruined his opportunity to receive a $200,000 grant for his research and confesses to attempting to kill Joy twice, though I think one of those attempts was Kelly, but he doesn't know that. The team arrives just in time to save Sabrina, and the professor crashes through a window in the lab and Kelly dashes after him, reversing their roles from earlier. This is the second scene we get of the professor running, and I will say he's got some nice scams. He might actually be a runner. The professor runs track regularly, as noted earlier in the episode, that Kelly is gaining on him without the head start that he had. The professor is losing steam and stupidly tries to take a swing at Kelly and loses his balance. The chase is over, and Bosley has the professor at gunpoint. We are at the agency to close out this episode. Sabrina reiterates that Professor Croydon lost the $200,000 grant money due to Joy's story, and we discover the professor was also put on notice by the university, which likely tipped the professor over the edge. Charlie mentions that there is a track star in the office, and Bosley I really love the end of this episode. Bosley proceeds to put his foot in his mouth and exclaims that Kelly runs like a man. And we get a lovely moment of the angels picking on Bosley.
SPEAKER_05What says I hear about Kelly the track star? Actually, that part of it was fun, Charlie. Oh, Charlie, listen, you should have seen her. She was wonderful. She ran that guy right into the ground. She runs just like a man. Oh, really?
SPEAKER_06You mean she runs like you run, Bosley?
SPEAKER_05No, not exactly. I mean, I'm not your typical male runner. I mean, I look, I'm paid to think to run.
SPEAKER_06Oh, I see. Then you think like a man, right?
SPEAKER_05Yes, I mean, of course.
SPEAKER_06Does Kelly think like a man?
SPEAKER_05No. Well, I mean, she. Charlie?
SPEAKER_06Kelly, do you think like a man or just run like a man? No.
SPEAKER_05Charlie. Help. You're on your own. Oh my gosh. I think I better run.
SPEAKER_10And I don't think it could be new. I don't think I've ever noticed it before. But this plaid wallpaper behind the bar, I really, really like it. I think it looks um, I don't know, like kind of chic, I guess. Um, I don't know why I've never noticed it before unless we've never seen this view, which can't be the case. I love this scene. I think it's a a wonderful close to this episode. I think it's so funny. David Doyle, I just like I want to say how much I appreciate him because he just does such a phenomenal job in this show.
SPEAKER_02Is it the shiny wallpaper?
SPEAKER_10It's like, it's not terribly shiny, no, but it is a a plaid that I believe is brown and white, and maybe a shade of black, like and maybe a shade of chocolate. It looks so good, and it has um like glass shelving and all of the glassware for the bar on it. It looks so good. I'll have to I'll um make a screenshot and put it in the post for this episode.
SPEAKER_02Delightful. Speaking of running, guess what I got on eBay the other day? I got the Gold Coast Collection marathon outfit, all purple. Kelly's pictured in.
SPEAKER_10Really?
SPEAKER_02All in the package. It was a good deal. It was in great shape. It made me think of this.
SPEAKER_10Oh wait, now for the doll? I said, where did you go to school?
SPEAKER_02No, for me, it's a life-size version. Yes, for the doll. It was in the package and everything.
SPEAKER_10You could have purchased a a purple valore jumpsuit for yourself.
SPEAKER_02How about you purchase that for me and then we'll see what happens?
SPEAKER_10I just might. That would be wonderful.
SPEAKER_02My future is all valore. Let's do our final guest star alert. Nicholas Coster plays Professor Croydon. I have a few things to say about him, and boy, everyone better batten down their hatches and hold on to their hard front wigs because am I gonna make some connections? He was born in nineteen thirty three, London, trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, and eventually became enormously well known to daytime viewers. See another soap opera person, legend in this episode, particularly as Lionel Lockridge on Santa Barbara. Long before that, however, he'd already been working steadily in TV and film for decades. This man has quite the superhero TV resume. November 1977 to set the stage at Charlie's Angels. There we go. September 1978, Spider-Man. December 1978, uh Wonder Woman. September 1979, uh The Incredible Hulk. Spider-Man, I'm talking about the TV version that lasted two seasons, had incredible stunt work. If you have a chance to hop on YouTube and look at some of that, they really had a stunt guy in a Spider-Man outfit swinging on a rope from building to building, no lie. Spider-Man Peter Parker, played by Nicholas Hammond, who was Friedrich in the sound of music. He was 14 in the sound of music, and at age 27, he donned the Spider-Man outfit for CBS. Friedrich Von Trapp, played by Nicholas Hammond, was Spider-Man. And he made a guest appearance on Logan's Run. Well, who was on Logan's Run? Heather Minzi's, who was Louisa Von Trapp. She played Jessica Six in Logan's Run. And she was married to Robert Urich, who we reference all the time in Vegas and Spencer for Hire, and she had a guest star spot on Vegas. And it's no are they while I'm on a Von Trapp role? Brigita Von Trapp was played by Angela Cartwright, who was also penny on Lost in Space, and made a guest appearance on Logan's Run. Her sister is Veronica, who is directed by Alfred Hitchcock, who Colvey loves, even though Alfred Hitchcock was not a very nice man. In The Birds, then she was an invasion of the body snatchers, and then the original alien. Oh my god, no, everybody, everyone, this as I've said in the past, I'm an educator. I want to help your brain connect the dots. So when you are done with this pod, not only have you been entertained, at least in the parts where I'm speaking, you are educated. You leave this podcast with a wealth of knowledge you never knew you needed. What about that, Colby? You saw none of that coming.
SPEAKER_10I did not see any of it coming. I am blown away. My plasma is on fire.
SPEAKER_02Are you stupamified? I can see Colby, and he is definitely stupamified.
SPEAKER_10Who do you think is the MVP of this episode, Chris?
SPEAKER_02Thank you for asking.
SPEAKER_00Oh, thank you very much.
SPEAKER_02And I've thought about this a lot. It's something I've wanted to bring up in the past, but I haven't because I keep forgetting. And it plays into this episode again. Segways, connections, dovetailing, connecting dots. I've always been enamored by Jacqueline Smith's voice. I feel like she could have taken that voice and done maybe that was part of her appeal, and I'm late to the party. That's often the case with me. In this episode, her voice is mentioned and recognized for its chocolatey, oozing, lovely, intelligent, dulcet, pear-shaped tones.
SPEAKER_08The pear-shaped tone gale.
SPEAKER_02Jacqueline Smith as my MVP solely for her voice.
SPEAKER_10My MVP for this episode is Sabrina.
SPEAKER_02Would you care to say something more?
SPEAKER_10Yes, I think that Sabrina's When they're in the helicopter and they're going to find they're going to find Kelly. Granted it is it is Buck steering the helicopter. But you know, her her quick action to hop in the helicopter and go find Kelly. And then getting herself trapped by the professor to give the angels time to get to the to the university.
SPEAKER_02Just whenever you. Well, I just now looked it up because I didn't know either. Here is the difference, everyone. Again, I'm an educator. A pond is very shallow, and sunlight reaches all the way to the bottom, which then has an impact on what sort of flora grow, the aquatic plants and the algae. And it also has an impact on the temperature. Lakes, however, think like the Great Lakes, Lake Superior and whatnot, and Huron, they are much deeper than ponds. Sunlight does not reach the deepest part. There is an area of darkness at the bottom of a true lake called the aphotic zone. And I would like to think that my heart is one giant aphotic zone. The plant life is different because of the sunlight, and the temperature is different because of the sunlight. And because lakes are larger, they have more space to make waves by the wind, not the way you make waves because you're so cranky.
SPEAKER_10Yes, all information very germane to angels on the air.
SPEAKER_02Well, here is a question, Germaine, to Angels on the air. You talked about buck flying a helicopter. What is the correct term for someone who is operating a helicopter up in the air as opposed to just sitting at it on the ground?
SPEAKER_10Oh, I don't know. What is it?
SPEAKER_02The proper professional word at the controls is the pilot. They are piloting a helicopter. They are piloting the pilot is piloting this plane. And I would also like to hearken back to an episode a couple of weeks ago where you made fun of me for not knowing what the side of the boat was. I don't I don't remember what side of the boat.
SPEAKER_10Starbucks and port, yes.
SPEAKER_02And you yelled at me saying there were several many future Charlie's Angels episodes coming up for which I should learn this term, as if we've not referenced the love boat a bajillion times. But anyway, what do you call it when somebody drives a boat? Let's say you get into a boat with your friends and you drive out to the middle of a lake, which we know you probably would not drive out into a pond, since we've distinguished the two. What do you call that?
SPEAKER_10Um what do you call navigating a boat?
SPEAKER_02Get ready. Get ready.
SPEAKER_10Okay. That was I was going to say that and I was like, you know what? It won't be right, and then he'll laugh at me.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I do that. I just have to mute myself. Or helming. And I prefer the word helming. Uh one final question for you. When you were on the cruise, when you dock, or as you called it during one episode, when you port, the captain is often on a little outside steering area where there's a glass bottom, so he can lookie-loo and see all the items beneath. Did you get to tour any fun parts of the cruise ship, like the control center or the little glass bottom lookie-loo?
SPEAKER_10I did not, and looking back at the activities that were offered on the ship, I do not recall seeing any tours of the ship itself.
SPEAKER_02Really? Well, I would love for I would love for our listeners to comment. I've never been on a cruise as we've established. Weigh in, we want to hear from you because I'd be fascinated to take a tour. But while it's docked, I don't want to be out on the water because then I'll get seasick and vomit. And I don't know what you call it when someone is both steering and touring and vomiting a cruise ship. But it doesn't matter because what does matter is you've joined us for today's breakdown of Angels on the Air. Colby, fabulous job of breaking down what could have been a very complex and complicated episode.
SPEAKER_10How do you do it? A little patience. I cross my fingers.
SPEAKER_02Uh-huh. I was gonna say with penicillin in ChatGPT, but your answer works. Be sure to check out our patrone. It's free to join. And then we have several many perks related to the several many levels. If you liked this episode, give it a like, leave a comment, and share.
SPEAKER_10That would uh just be wonderful. We would really appreciate it.
SPEAKER_02So thinking what? Could I say one more thing? Wait, what? I just want to suggest, I want to please just may I say one thing. I want our beloved listeners to, I don't know, think of their dear, dear friends who would enjoy this pod and steer helm, skip or sail, or pilot them toward us on whatever platform they utilize for their pods.
